Renaissance Marriage: More Than Just a Love Match

Marriage in Italian Renaissance upper class families was not a case of boy meets girl, they fall in love and marry. It involved the wealth and prestige of two families and entailed elaborate ceremonies, gifts and costumes.

By studying paintings and household goods, this lecture will look at the various aspects of this ritual, from the betrothal of the happy couple to the birth of their first child.
